Of the many crafts Diane dabbled in, ceramics was the least convenient of them all. It was a hobby that required someone else’s facilities, equipment and expertise to access, and she could never find focus working in a busy public studio. She wondered what it would be like to play with clay at home, on her own schedule. When the pandemic arrived, it combined forces with a milestone birthday to pose the question, “If not now, when?” She purchased a studio-full of equipment from a retiring potter and set up her home studio. The lot included a slab roller, and with that, she fell in love with hand-building - the feel of the clay, and the ability to work with it in a way that reminds her of those other hobbies she has loved that involve fabric or paper. Upon moving to Fort Collins, she left the 9-5 office grind behind and has been experimenting with clay and glaze full-time. She works extensively with hand-mixed slips and various techniques for printing on clay.
